About the Swedish Input List

The Swedish Input List is a public online register of inputs which may be used by organic farmers in Sweden. The list is published in a co-operation between FiBL and KRAV for the benefit of the Swedish organic sector. The Swedish Input List is based on the EU organic legislation, the relevant Swedish general legislation, the KRAV standard and the implementation rules developed by FiBL in the context of the European Input List.

Why a Swedish Input List?

Farmers need a wide range of inputs, such as fertilizers or plant protection products in order to keep their crops healthy, as well as different feed products and additives to ensure an optimal supply of livestock. Along with the quick development of the organic farming sector, an increasing number of such inputs for organic agriculture is being offered on national and international level. This makes it more and more difficult for farmers to determine whether products available for various purposes actually meet the requirements of organic farming. The use of non-authorised materials poses a substantial risk for the individual organic farmer as well as for the organic sector as a whole. To fill this information gap, the Swedish Input List provides a list of inputs which have been thoroughly evaluated by independent experts.

The Swedish Input List is based on expert evaluation and long-standing scientific experience in assessing inputs for organic agriculture. The Swedish Input List increases transparency and improves the reliability in terms of inputs to be used legally in the organic production and hence supports the different stakeholders of the sector.

KRAV certified farmers and EU-certified organic farmers

As the great majority of organic farmers in Sweden follow the KRAV standard, the default settings of the search tool match have been set to show only products which may be used on KRAV certified farms.

Organic farmers who do not follow the KRAV standard may adjust the search tool, so that all products allowed for organic farming will be shown (for details, see How to use).

The Swedish Input List as part of the European Input List

The Swedish Input List is part of a series of national input lists which are united under the umbrella of the European Input List. Products which comply with the basic admission criteria are also included into the European Input List.

KRAV is a private standard owner in Sweden which standards comply with EU regulation for organic production but are in some cases more stringent with stricter standards for animal welfare, environment and health, climate, and better working conditions.  KRAVs first standards were published in 1985 and today there are standards for 17 different categories of production. To ensure compliance with the standards independent certification bodies that are accredited to provide KRAV certification carry out audits and certification.
